Week 8: September 29-October 3

The first quarter of the year ends soon on October 10.   Progress Reports are going home today, please check in with your child and encourage them to do their best in the last 2 weeks of the quarter. 

Here is the schedule and homework for our 8th week of school.  We are studying and learning A LOT of information on slavery this week.

Monday:

  1. New Warm Ups: Week 8
  2. Chapter 11 Section 2 Notes
  • Homework: Get parents to sign progress report (No matter what your grade is)
  • Pre-AP: Read Slave Narrative

Tuesday:

  1. 2nd half of notes from yesterday
  2. Analyzing Slave Narratives and Slave Spirituals
  • Homework for all classes: Respond in 1-3 Paragraphs: Discuss the role of spirituals in African-American slave culture. How were these spirituals much more than just songs?

Wednesday:

  1. 3rd, 4th, and 6th hours: Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension on Chapter 14 section 4
  2. 1st and 2nd hours: Slavery Document Based Question
  • Pre-AP homework: Complete Slavery DBQ

Thursday:

  1. Mapping the Underground Railroad
  • Homework for all classes: Read Frederick Douglass: History Maker and answer the questions on a separate sheet of paper.

Friday:

  1. Review Games and Catch up day

  3. Painting Analysis: “American Progress” (see last week’s schedule for link to handout please…catching up from last week)

Tuesday:

  1. Do Study Guide Together
  2. Video: The Alamo
  3. Binder Checks

Wednesday:

  1. Finish Video and Binder Checks
  2. Quiz on Chapter 13 sections 2-4 (still catching up from last week)

Homework for Pre-AP Only: Read Slave Narrative of Walter Rimm and follow the directions attached.  

Parental Warning: Used in the context of slavery, the “N” word is presented several times.

  2. 1st and 2nd hours:  Simulation and Discussion of North, South, and British Relationship
  3. 3rd, 4th, and 6th hours: Notes on the history of slavery and Chapter 11 section 2: Plantations and Slavery Spread

Homework: Chart on North and South Differences

Friday:

  1. Go over homework in class
  2. 1st and 2nd Hours:  Reading Slave Narratives and Learning about oral histories
  3. 3rd, 4th, and 6th hours: Read and Sketch Chapter 11 section 2

Out Sick

Hello Everybody, Just wanted to let all the parents know that I was indeed out sick for about 2 1/2 days this week and as a result we will be doing a little bit of catch-up work next week.  All is well with me, now that I am on antibiotics for a bout of tonsillitis…guess I talk too much 🙂 

6th hour progress reports are finally going home today!  Because of my days out and distractions in catching up yesterday they have been put off until today.  So sorry for the delay, and thanks for your understanding.

Wednesday:

  1. Half day (dismissal at 11:35): Focus on Writing; go to 4th Hour class

After 3 weeks of school we have completed our unit on Geography and I have selected 2 students of the unit per class, one boy and one girl each.  Congratulations to:
